Model 1840 U.S. Cavalry Saber, with leather sword knot, 41'' overall with 36'' blade marked ''Ames Mfg'd Chicopee Mass'', and dated 1853; obverse marked ''U.S./A.D.K.'', making this sword correct for either Confederate or Northern use. Condition is very good with moderate carbon spotting to blade. Tight two-stand brass wrap over leather handle. Leather washer is present. Two-ring iron scabbard with one small ding 2/3s down. Sword knot is excellent. Est.: $1,000-$1,500.
